LGA Chairmen in Rivers accuse Fubara of withholding allocations
The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Rivers State Chapter, has criticized Governor Siminalayi Fubara for allegedly withholding funds that were intended for the Local Governments.
This action has sparked outrage among the local government chairmen and has raised concerns about financial transparency and accountability.

The accusation against Governor Fubara has ignited a heated debate regarding the proper utilization of funds allocated to the Local Governments.
The ALGON in Rivers State is demanding answers and transparency from the governor, as they believe that the funds should be promptly disbursed to support the development and welfare of the respective local government areas.
Speaking on behalf of the group during a press parley in Port Harcourt, the Chairman of Port Harcourt LGA, Allwell Ihunda, accused the governor of withholding allocations meant for the LGAs since April, and March in the case of Emohua.
He further alleged that the governor was intending to dip his hands into the LGA funds.
Ihunda stated, “It has come to the notice of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, Rivers State chapter, that the Rivers State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has neglected, failed, and deliberately refused to hold the statutory Joint Account Allocation Committee Meeting which is the prerequisite for the release and disbursement of funds due to the local government in the State Joint Local Government Accounts.
“And has continued to withhold the statutory allocations due to the 23 local government councils of Rivers State since April 2024.
“And in the case of Emuoha LGA since March 2024 till date for no just course, thereby starving the third tier of the government of the funds required to discharge its statutory functions in the administration of the local government areas.”
They called on President Tinubu to call Governor Fubara to order, to forestall a total breakdown of law and order in Rivers State.
During the question and answer session, however, the Chairman of Andoni LGA, said he would remain in office for 6 months after the expiration of his tenure, as permitted under the amended Local Government law.
