Pep Guardiola waves off Man City’s trophy chances this season amid poor form
Pep Guardiola claims Manchester City lack the capability to win either the Premier League or Champions League this season.
The reigning champions are enduring a torrid run, winning just one of their last 11 games across all competitions.
Speaking to TNT Sports, Guardiola dismissed City’s chances of competing for major silverware, bluntly stating, “We don’t have the players.”
He explained: “It’s more difficult. I don’t have the feeling now. Maybe it’s going to happen, who knows? But I have the feeling that now we have to think in the short term. We cannot put a lot of big, big targets.”

City’s recent struggles have seen them drop to fifth in the Premier League, nine points behind leaders Liverpool.
They were also eliminated from the Carabao Cup and are in a precarious position in the Champions League, with just one point from their last three games leaving them 22nd in the overall group standings.
Guardiola also emphasized the importance of consistency, a hallmark of City’s success in recent years, but admitted it has been lacking this season.
“When you want to achieve something important, like win the Premier League or reach the latter stages of the Champions League, you need consistency. We were incredibly consistent before, but now we are not.”
Despite the grim outlook, City have a chance to climb back into the top four when they face Aston Villa this weekend.
However, their hopes of salvaging their Champions League campaign hinge on their final two group-stage matches.
