Troost-Ekong warns Super Eagles against complacency ahead of Zimbabwe clash
Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has urged his teammates to stay focused and avoid complacency.
The comment comes ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe in Uyo on Tuesday evening.
Nigeria are coming off a 2-0 win over Rwanda in Kigali, marking their first win of the qualifiers.
Despite the win, the Super Eagles remain fourth in their group with six points from five matches, making the clash against Zimbabwe a must-win fixture.
Troost-Ekong emphasized the importance of securing maximum points, stressing that Nigeria cannot afford any more slip-ups in their quest for World Cup qualification.
“We are looking forward to a win. The three points are important to us. At this stage, we cannot afford to drop any more points,” the Super Eagles captain said in a statement released by the NFF.
“Our aim is to take it one match at a time, collect three points here and there, and hope fervently that these will be enough to get us the ticket.”
With head coach Eric Chelle leading the charge, the Super Eagles will be aiming for another strong performance to boost their qualification hopes.
A victory against Zimbabwe would push them further up the standings and strengthen their bid for a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
