No more Fubara: Drama as pro-emergency rule protest breaks out Rivers
A large group of women in Rivers State staged a protest in Port Harcourt on Monday, April 14, 2025, to show their support for the declaration of a state of emergency in the state.
The protest came just days after supporters of the suspended Governor Fubara staged a demonstration calling for his reinstatement.
The women, advocating for the state of emergency, argued that Rivers needed peace and stability, rather than the return of the embattled governor.
Their protest directly countered the rally held by those calling for Fubara’s reinstatement.
The demonstrators carried placards with messages such as: “State of Emergency Is Constitutional,” “No Tribal War in Rivers State,” “No More Fubara,” and “We Need Peace, Not Fubara.”
Hon. Gladys Nweke, a former Vice Chairman of Etche Local Government Area and one of the rally’s organizers, spoke to journalists.
She said, “What we are doing here is a solidarity march in support of the state of emergency in Rivers State. Since the declaration of the state of emergency, there has been peace. We no longer hear about killings and cult activities in the state.”
