Tenant calls out landlord over rent hike from ₦1.2m to ₦1.8m amidst hardship

A Nigerian lady has called out her landlord for increasing her rent from ₦1.2 million to ₦1.8 million despite the harsh economic situation in the country.
This was revealed in a post shared on the popular social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
Tenant calls out landlord over rent hike from ₦1.2m to ₦1.8m.
In the post, the lady expressed frustration, lamenting that the economic hardship in Nigeria is already unbearable, yet her landlord is showing no consideration by raising the rent significantly.
She wrote: “They’ve increased my rent today. I just got back from the market and found out my rent has been raised from ₦1.2 million to ₦1.8 million.”
“Is that not too much? Nigeria is already hard enough, people are just trying to survive. What is happening, landlord? Nobody is considering anybody; everybody wants to kill everybody.”
She further noted that the rent increment letter stated the rent was previously ₦1 million, whereas she had been paying ₦1.2 million for the past two years.
“Is it a mistake? I’ve been paying ₦1.2 million, which is an extra ₦600,000. Now it’s going up to ₦1.8 million?” she questioned.
