Amorim’s job safe regardless of Europa League final result — report
Ruben Amorim will not be sacked by Manchester United even if the club loses to Tottenham in the Europa League final on May 21, Gistreel sports understands.
Despite a disastrous domestic campaign that sees United languishing in 16th place with just 39 points from 36 Premier League games, club leadership is reportedly backing Amorim for the long haul, according to The Guardian.
The Portuguese manager has overseen just two wins in the last 10 league matches, including a dismal 2-0 home defeat to West Ham last Sunday.
Amorim’s cryptic post-match comments triggered speculation about his future:
“We need to change that and be brave… If we start like this, or if the feeling is still here, we should give the space to different persons.”
However, the board views the Europa League final in Bilbao against Tottenham as an opportunity for silverware and Champions League qualification, not a decisive factor for Amorim’s job security.
The report also states that Amorim is already actively shaping his rebuild plans.
He has identified Wolves forward Matheus Cunha and Ipswich striker Liam Delap as key summer targets.
Cunha has a £62.5 million release clause and is reportedly open to a move.
Delap has a £30 million relegation clause in his contract with Ipswich, which can be activated in the upcoming transfer window.
