‘I admire Yamal, Raphinha’ – Slot responds Deco with subtle jab over Luis Diaz talk
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has delivered a pointed response to Barcelona sporting director Deco after the latter publicly expressed interest in Reds winger Luis Diaz.
Deco recently admitted Barcelona “like” Diaz and Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, though he acknowledged discussing contracted players is “complicated out of respect.”
However, Slot has taken issue with the public nature of the comments, and during a press conference, responded with a measured but cheeky retort.
“Every club has its own way of doing things,” Slot said. “You’re used to the fact that I don’t talk about players from other clubs that we haven’t signed.
“I understand he [Deco] is a big admirer of Lucho Diaz – because I am too. He is a great player, having a great season. He admires a few players, which we all do. I admire Lamine Yamal and Raphinha a lot as well!”
Liverpool remain reluctant to part with Diaz, who was signed from Porto for £50 million in 2022.
With just two years left on his contract, the club are reportedly working on an extension but may consider a sale if a significant offer arrives.
Reports also suggest Liverpool are front-runners to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz, who could fill a versatile attacking role should Diaz depart.
