Ademola Lookman (born October 20, 1997) is a professional football forward for Serie A club Atalanta. He was born in England and currently plays for Nigeria’s national team (Super Eagles).
Lookman made his senior debut in 2015, playing forward for Charlton Athletic in the Championship. He signed with Everton in January 2017, where he primarily featured as a winger. After joining Italian side Atalanta in 2022, he won the UEFA Europa League in 2024, scoring a hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen, and was named African Footballer of the Year, becoming only the seventh Nigerian to receive the title.
After representing England at the under-19 and under-21 levels, Lookman earned his senior debut for Nigeria in 2022. He was part of the squad that placed second in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Career
In 2014, Lookman left Waterloo, a youth football team in the London Borough of Lambeth, to join Charlton Athletic’s academy. He advanced swiftly through the Charlton youth system thanks to his goal-scoring record for the U18 and U21 sides, and on November 3, 2015, he earned his Addicks first-team debut.
On December 5, 2015, he scored his first goal for the team in a 3-2 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion. Ten days later, he scored both goals for Charlton in a 2-2 tie with Bolton Wanderers. Lookman agreed to a four-and-a-half-year contract with Everton on January 5, 2017, for an unknown sum that was first estimated to be £7.5 million and may increase to £11 million with add-ons.
In another ten days, he scored the game’s fourth goal and replaced Ross Barkley in the 90th minute of a 4-0 victory over Manchester City, marking his club debut. Lookman made his European debut as Everton defeated MFK Ružomberok 1-0 in the opening leg of the Europa League third qualifying round.
Despite manager Sam Allardyce’s declaration that Lookman would not be shipped out during the January 2018 transfer window, the team ultimately consented to a loan transfer to Derby County, a Championship team, where he was anticipated to play frequently in the first squad. The midfielder, however, insisted on a different transfer and committed to RB Leipzig of the Bundesliga till the end of the 2017–2018 campaign.
In his Leipzig debut, Lookman came on as a late substitute against Borussia Mönchengladbach and scored the game-winning goal. Lookman signed a five-year contract with RB Leipzig on July 25, 2019. Ademola Lookman reportedly agreed to a four-year deal for €15 million with Serie A team Atalanta on August 4, 2022. On August 13, he scored in his first game for the team, a 2-0 victory over Sampdoria in Serie A. He had three straight goals in January 2023: a 3-3 Serie A draw with Juventus, a 5-2 Coppa Italia victory over Spezia, and an 8-2 Serie A victory over Salernitana.
In the Europa League final held at the Dublin Arena on May 22, 2024, he scored his first career hat-trick as Atalanta defeated Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 to win the trophy for the first time in the club’s history. International career
Lookman was born in England to Nigerian parents and may play for both countries’ national teams. He received his first international call-up when he was selected for England’s U19 team in Mexico. He was then selected for the European U19 Championships that summer. In early 2017, Lookman turned down an invitation to switch allegiance to Nigeria after being approached by national coach Gernot Rohr.
Lookman was named to England’s under-20 squad for the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup. He scored three goals during the tournament, two against Costa Rica in the round of 16 and one against Italy in the semi-finals. England won the World Championship for the first time since 1966, defeating Venezuela 1-0 in the final.

The Nigeria Football Federation declared in January 2020 that Lookman would change his international allegiance to Nigeria, despite his caps and youth achievements for England and his prior rejection of offers from Nigeria. Lookman maintained, nevertheless, that his desire to play for England had not altered.
FIFA granted Lookman’s request to play for the Nigerian national team on February 10, 2022. On March 25, 2022, Lookman made his Nigerian debut in a scoreless tie with Ghana during the third round of the African section’s 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying.
Lookman was included in Nigeria’s team for the Ivory Coast-hosted 2023 African Cup of Nations.
