Deco on Lamine Yamal: ‘Becoming best depends on him’
Barcelona sporting director Deco has weighed in on the rapid rise of teenage sensation Lamine Yamal.
Deco states that the 17-year-old’s rising to the top of the world football will be determined by his own discipline and ambition.
Yamal, already a regular starter for both Barcelona and Spain, has emerged as a cornerstone for managers Hansi Flick and Luis de la Fuente, despite his age.
Following a breakthrough campaign capped by a trophy treble under Flick, Yamal has maintained his position as a vital part of Barcelona’s attacking trident alongside Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha.
“Lamine Yamal is a phenomenon. Being the best in the world depends on him,” Deco told Marca, adding that the club expects him to remain at the heart of Barça’s future for years to come.
“He’ll be at Barça for the next few years, competing at the highest level, in the Champions League, in La Liga, competing with Real Madrid and other top clubs,” Deco continued.
The Blaugrana have already tied Yamal down to a long-term contract, though Deco emphasised the importance of keeping expectations in check.
