Lionel Messi once again delivered a match-winning performance as Inter Miami edged Nashville SC 2-1 at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.

The Argentine forward scored both goals for the Herons, extending his remarkable run to five consecutive MLS matches with a brace, a league record.

The victory lifts Inter Miami to 38 points, five behind Eastern Conference leaders Philadelphia Union, with three games in hand.

Messi opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a low free-kick that caught the Nashville defense and goalkeeper off guard.

However, Nashville equalized shortly after halftime through 2022 MLS MVP Hany Mukhtar, who headed home from an Andy Najar cross.

The decisive moment came in the 62nd minute when Messi capitalized on a poor pass from Nashville goalkeeper Joe Willis, rounding him with ease and finishing calmly to restore Miami’s lead.

With the win, Miami extended their unbeaten run to six matches, securing their fifth straight league victory.
