Arsenal’s pursuit of Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze is under threat, with Bayern Munich now in contention for the England international.

According to The Sun, the German champions have identified Eze as a top target following the long-term injury to Jamal Musiala and recent departures of Leroy Sané and Thomas Müller.

New manager Vincent Kompany is keen to reunite Eze with ex-Palace teammate Michael Olise, who joined Bayern earlier this window.

Mikel Arteta reportedly views Eze as the “final piece in the jigsaw” of his evolving Arsenal setup, aimed at finally delivering a Premier League title.

The Gunners are expected to announce the signing of striker Viktor Gyökeres shortly, but their plans to follow that with a move for Eze may be undercut by Bayern’s sudden involvement.

Eze, 27, enjoyed a standout 2023/24 season, scoring 14 goals and assisting 11 times, including the match-winner in the FA Cup final.

He also scored his first goal for England earlier this year. His £68 million release clause makes him an attainable but not inexpensive option for top-tier clubs.

With Arsenal yet to lodge an official bid, Bayern could strike first, especially as they remain in aggressive rebuild mode after missing out on Florian Wirtz to Liverpool.

The Bundesliga outfit have also been linked with a move for Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku as an alternative.
