Dino Melaye resigns from PDP, cites party’s failure to rescue Nigeria
Former Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s failure to provide credible leadership capable of addressing Nigeria’s worsening political and socio-economic challenges.
Melaye made the announcement in a letter dated July 4, 2025, addressed to the PDP chairman of Ward 1, Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area in Kogi State. He also shared the letter publicly via his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday, July 31.
“I hereby tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party at all levels of involvement,” the letter read.
The outspoken politician, who was the PDP’s 2023 governorship candidate in Kogi State, attributed his resignation to what he described as the party’s “lack of potency and capacity to deliver the Nigerian people from the prevailing political cankerworms that have eaten deeply into the fabric of our dear nation.”
Melaye expressed disappointment in the PDP’s trajectory, noting that after deep introspection, he could no longer “in good conscience” support or participate in the party’s activities.
“Having carefully reflected on the state of the party, I can no longer in good conscience participate in the activities of the party or lend my support to her agenda. In view of the above, please consider this as my formal withdrawal from the party and all its activities at all levels with immediate effect,” he wrote.
In a follow-up video, Dino confirmed his official membership under the umbrella of the coalition party, ADC.
