Foundation wins community influencer award

For the community service rendered in Amuwo Odofin, United Breeds Foundation (UBF) has emerged winner of the 2022 community influencer of the year award.

The award organized by the Keeping Marriage Alive Initiative (KMAI) held on Sunday,June 26.

The Festac-based harm reduction organisation has been involved in community initiatives such as fights against drug addiction and managing the apple junction traffic for more than 43 days.

The convener of UB, Evangelist David Ohiembor, said the journey the organisation began three years ago felt like a lost cause and commended the UBF team for the impact they have made within Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area.

He thanked the award’s organisers and commended them for recognizing the wonderful work being done in the area.

He commended KMAI’s founder, Mrs. Ngozi Okonkwo, adding. “It’s very lovely when I see women playing an active role in women in community development.

According to him, parents have a crucial role to play in raising kids who will have a beneficial impact on the community.

He stated that poor parenting is the primary contributor to drug addiction and other social vices in the community.

Reverend Ohiembor said that leadership is about service and parents must strive to imbibe this value in children.

Mr. Anthony Abakporo, the founder of UBF, said. “When you are doing something and people are recognizing it, it gives you the energy to do more. UBF has existed for three years and we have never gotten awards. This is the first award. When you look at the community influencer title it lifts your spirit and makes you want to go back with the team and try to do more.

Mr. Abakporo said residents of Amuwo Odofin must resume having community meetings where problems will be discussed with a view to resolution.

He believes it’s the first step to moving the community forward.

He also urged residents to take the initiative and not wait for the government regarding minor community issues.
