Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti hopes Toni Kroos withdraws his retirement plans following their Champion League 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund.

Kroos played a key role for Madrid in the thrilling encounter that saw them struggle in the first 70 minutes, with several missed opportunities from Dortmund’s Niclas Füllkrug and Karim Adeyemi.

However, as Kroos began to find more space and control the game’s tempo, the momentum shifted.

The 34-year-old playmaker played a crucial role, assisting the first goal from a corner and overseeing several key plays that dismantle Dortmund’s defense.

His class performance ensured Madrid’s 15th European Cup title.

Despite his instrumental role, Kroos has announced his decision to retire after the upcoming EURO 2024.

Real Madrid boss Ancelotti expressed his hope that Kroos might reconsider his retirement plans.

Speaking to Sky Germany, Ancelotti said, “We hope he changes his mind, and if he does, we’ll be there.

“He is a legend at this club, and we all thank him for what he has done. Not only through his play but also through his attitude and professionalism. In ten years, he has not missed a single day,” he added.

Despite Ancelotti’s wishes, Kroos reiterated after the game that his decision is final, stating his intention to retire after the Euro 2024 tournament.
