Chelsea in talks to sign Lille forward Jonathan David, per Ornstein

Chelsea have reportedly made enquiries with Lille striker Jonathan David’s camp about a possible transfer this summer.

Football transfer expert David Ornstein says the 24-year-old Canadian international is among the top options being considered to bolster Chelsea’s attack for the upcoming season.

David, who has just 12 months remaining on his contract with Lille, is expected to be available at a reasonable price.

David joined the French outfit from Belgian club Gent in 2020 in a record deal.

Since then, he has scored 84 goals in 183 matches, making him the third-highest scorer in Lille’s history and the top scorer of the 21st century.

Known for his consistency, David has missed only three matches in four seasons and played a crucial role in Lille’s 2021 Ligue 1 title and Trophee des Champions victory.

In the 2023/24 season, David scored 19 goals, including key strikes against PSG, Marseille, and Lyon, helping Lille secure a fourth-place finish and Champions League qualification.
