Former Sevilla and AS Monaco forward Wissam Ben Yedder has apologised to his victim while standing trial for an alleged rape.

The 34-year-old French international, who is awaiting a verdict on November 12, faces a possible two-and-a-half-year prison sentence if found guilty.

During the trial, Ben Yedder attributed his actions to heavy drinking, citing personal struggles including financial issues with his agent and a separation from his wife.

“I’m a solitary person… I sought refuge in alcohol,” he told the court, according to Marca.

Expressing regret, Ben Yedder said, “I don’t remember anything… I sincerely apologise to the victim, their family, and my own.”

Now without a team, the striker’s future in football remains uncertain as he awaits sentencing.
