AFCON 2025Q: Troost-Ekong ready for tough challenge against Benin Republic
Nigeria’s Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong is gearing up for a challenging match against the Cheetahs of Benin Republic.
Nigeria will face Gernot Rohr’s men in their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifier.
The match holds on Thursday at the Felix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan, where Benin defeated Nigeria 2-1 in a 2026 World Cup qualifier last June.
Acknowledging the threat Benin poses, Troost-Ekong emphasized the need for the team to be focused.

“The stadium is familiar, and we have good memories from AFCON here,” he told thenff.com.
“We’ll focus on positive results from the past and aim for another good performance on Thursday.”
The defender noted that while Benin is also vying for AFCON qualification, Nigeria’s objective remains the same.
“It’s not going to be easy, but our goal is clear: to secure three points,” he added.
