President Bola Tinubu on Monday emphasized that corruption, in all its forms, is harmful to the people.
Speaking during his first presidential media chat, Tinubu addressed his administration’s plans to combat corruption, highlighting that raising the minimum wage to ₦70,000 is one of the strategies aimed at addressing the issue.

The President underscored the importance of identifying and tackling the root causes of corruption, stating:
“Corruption in all its forms is bad for the people. But first, we must understand the causes. Why do people engage in corruption?
“It often stems from a lack of social amenities, insufficient funds, or the inability to afford their children’s education.
“There are many anti-corruption strategies that can support people and discourage corrupt practices. Providing fair and livable wages is one of them. I increased the minimum wage from ₦35,000 to ₦70,000 because, to me, that’s part of fighting corruption,” Tinubu explained.
The President also highlighted his administration’s efforts to promote transparency as a tool to combat corruption. He noted that more funds have been allocated to state and local governments, and he ensures transparency by regularly disclosing government revenues.
While acknowledging the difficulty of completely eradicating corruption, Tinubu expressed confidence in reducing it significantly by addressing the needs of the people.
“It’s challenging to eliminate corruption entirely, but we can reduce it to the barest minimum by meeting the people’s needs,” he added.
