Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has signed the 2025 budget of ₦550 billion into law, just hours after its passage by the State Assembly.
The budget, titled Human Capital Development, Food Security, and the Digital Economy, totals ₦550,112,988,930.45.
The Benue State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh, passed the appropriation bill during its plenary session on Monday, December 30, 2024.
The signing ceremony at the Benue State Government House, Makurdi, coincided with the launch of the State’s 10-Year Development Plan, the State Nutrition Policy, and the State Social Protection Policy.
Governor Alia described the day as pivotal, marking a new chapter in Benue’s journey toward a brighter and more prosperous future.
“The signing of the 2025 budget, along with the launch of the Development Plan and critical policies, signifies the foundation for a future where every citizen can succeed, live in dignity, and contribute to the state’s growth,” he said. “This is just the beginning. Together, we will build a more resilient future for ourselves and the generations to come.”
The governor emphasized that the budget provides a framework for improving education, healthcare, and lifelong learning. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to equipping citizens with the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.
On the digital economy, Governor Alia described it as the future, with substantial resources allocated toward digital transformation. These include investments in digital infrastructure, internet access, and innovation hubs to foster entrepreneurship, create jobs, and boost digital literacy.
Regarding the Social Protection Policy, Alia highlighted its importance in creating a safety net for society’s most vulnerable members. The policy offers financial assistance, healthcare, education, and job training opportunities, underscoring the government’s resolve to protect all citizens.
The governor expressed gratitude to the Benue State House of Assembly for passing the budget and to UNICEF for facilitating key policies, adding that collective efforts would bring about lasting prosperity and positive change in the state.
