The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has vowed to take decisive action against any attack on officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
During a visit to the Enugu State Police Command on Friday, Egbetokun emphasized that such acts are not only criminal but also a direct affront to the institution of the police.
He reiterated his commitment to protecting police personnel in 2025, warning that any assault on officers would be met with swift and appropriate retaliation.

“We will not tolerate any assault on our police officers, let alone their killing,” he declared. “An assault on a policeman is an assault on the IG and the entire force. This will no longer be accepted. Wherever a policeman is harmed, there must be a unified and proportionate response from us.”
Egbetokun’s zero-tolerance stance reflects broader efforts to enhance the welfare and professionalism of the police force. He underscored the importance of collaboration with the federal government to improve conditions for officers and cited the force’s impartial handling of recent cases, such as the alleged assault of a Bolt driver by a federal lawmaker, as evidence of their commitment to justice.
Commending the Enugu State Police Command for their dedication and professionalism, the IG praised their achievements while warning against the misconduct of a few rogue officers. “You are hardworking, diligent, and committed. Your governor has praised your efforts, and I am proud of your achievements. However, we must address the actions of a few bad eggs within the command,” he stated.
Looking ahead to 2025, Egbetokun outlined a vision centered on professionalism, ethical conduct, and the retraining of officers. “This year, we are determined to stamp out criminals and ensure they do not return. We will equip you with modern policing tools and prioritize your welfare. The Federal Government, under President Tinubu, is committed to supporting police officers and recognizes the sacrifices you make.”
He also warned officers against being influenced by misinformation circulating online, urging them to remain focused on their duties.
“This year, we will vigorously pursue our policing vision for Nigeria. We will emphasize ethics, professionalism, and continuous training while ensuring that your welfare is not overlooked,” he concluded.
