Paul Ibe, media aide to the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has raised concerns over the controversy surrounding the legal status of the recently impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa.
According to reports, a Supreme Court document dated July 24, 2020, revealed that Obasa is not a lawyer recognized by the apex court.
The document, issued in response to a verification request on Obasa’s legal status, was signed by Gertrude Karenton-Mordi on behalf of the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, Paul Ibe questioned the timing of the document’s release, suggesting it was made public only after Obasa’s impeachment.
Ibe further alleged that individuals like Obasa occupy various positions in government, from top offices to legislative roles. He claimed that some officials elected in 2023 misrepresented their educational qualifications, were involved in credit scams, or had been indicted for embezzling public funds.
He wrote, “Why is the Supreme Court document alleging that impeached Speaker Obasa is not a registered legal practitioner just coming out now? By the way, there are several of such persons still serving in government from the very top to lawmakers.
“Among the class of 2023 are those who forged certificates; lied about schools they never attended; refunded money for links to drugs trafficking; indicted for stealing funds of their clients and involved in credit card scam. There are several Obasas still holding sway.”
