Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Launches Environmental Taskforce Drive.

In a concerted effort to maintain environmental order and improve urban mobility, the Environment Department of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government has launched a strategic taskforce drive to dislodge street traders operating on the newly constructed overhead bridge at Second Rainbow. This initiative is led by the Supervisor for Environment, Mr. Gbenga Akinbinu, and operates under the directive of the Executive Chairman, Engr. Dr. Valentine Buraimoh.
The Second Rainbow bridge, a crucial connection between Festac, the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, and the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, has recently been plagued by an upsurge of unauthorized trading activities. These activities have not only posed safety risks to pedestrians and motorists but have also impeded the flow of traffic and marred the aesthetic value of this vital infrastructure.
Mr. Gbenga Akinbinu emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “Our goal is to ensure that the newly constructed infrastructure serves its purpose efficiently without being obstructed. Street trading at such junctions not only endangers lives but also hinders the free flow of traffic which is vital for economic activities and the wellbeing of our residents.
The taskforce aims to enforce existing environmental and traffic regulations, ensuring that the bridge remains clear for vehicles and pedestrians, thereby improving safety and efficiency. This follows several awareness campaigns targeted at educating traders on the importance of relocating their businesses to designated markets away from busy roads.
Executive Chairman, Engr. Dr. Valentine Buraimoh, reiterated his commitment to transforming Amuwo-Odofin into a model urban environment. “We are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our local government area by ensuring our roads and bridges are safe and accessible. This taskforce drive is part of our larger plan to foster a cleaner and more organized urban space for our citizens,” he stated.
The Amuwo-Odofin Local Government encourages community members to cooperate with the taskforce drive, recognizing the shared responsibility in fostering a safe and orderly environment.
