Lady knocks Tinubu, claims WAEC fees jumped from ₦16,500 in 2017 to ₦120,000 in 2025
A Nigerian lady has criticized President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Education over the sharp rise in WAEC registration fees, alleging that she paid ₦16,500 in 2017, while students now have to pay ₦120,000 in 2025.
In a video making waves on X (formerly Twitter), the young woman expressed her frustration, condemning the current administration for what she described as poor governance, particularly in the education sector.
Addressing the president directly, she said:
“Tinubu, I’m here to tell you that your administration is terrible. It is the worst administration ever. You should be ashamed of yourself for occupying such an office.”
She also called out the Minister of Education, saying:
“As the minister of education, your duty is to oversee everything related to education in Nigeria. But what are you doing? Nothing. In 2017, I paid ₦16,500 to register for WAEC. Now, in 2025, students are paying ₦120,000 for the same exam.”
She lamented that many students are unable to afford the exorbitant registration fee, forcing them to abandon their education.
“If you go to the streets, you’ll see many students who won’t be writing the 2025 WAEC because they couldn’t afford the registration fee. Instead, they are out there hawking pure water just to survive.”
The video has sparked widespread reactions online, with concerned Nigerians flooding the comment section to share their opinions on the matter.
See some reactions below:
@ibxaag: “A young single mother who earns less about 50k would and manages to see her son through SS3 would encourage such son into internet fraud so that he can at least write WAEC since that poses the only way for both mother and son. These are the issues.”
@YeyeOba001: “Any school collecting 120k for WAEC exams has added extra charges to allow you to cheat. That 120k covers free cheating and exam malpractices.”
@Hammedojo8: “lol the parental failure has push a lot of children into content failure creators abeg na una time continue very soon they will increase data and start taxing you guys heavily.”
@princekubas: “This is the reason why they have made exam malpractice compulsory in Nigeria mehn damn.”
@getmotivatedng: “Like seriously, 120k to write WAEC? that means they dont want children to go to school anymore then. How many people in rural communities can afford 120k? Na wa o.”
@fineboyrealtor0: “Wait I had to come back to this news ? Money to write waec is more than copper allowance and minimum wage if we don’t do something soon this country would be a shambles.”
@Samoxine_: “If dem pick this one up for misinformation, people will say she’s been silenced. Misinformation is not criticism nah, Waec is not 120k, If it is, mention the school directly and they will explain to the public why it is 120k after getting shut down. But Waec is not 120k. shalom.”
