Manchester United are preparing to rival Chelsea in the race to sign Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap.

The 20-year-old has emerged as a key summer target following an impressive Premier League campaign.

Delap, who joined Ipswich from Manchester City last summer in a deal worth £20 million, has netted 12 goals in his debut top-flight season.

Despite Ipswich’s ongoing relegation battle, the young forward has attracted interest from top-tier clubs for his consistent performances.

According to ESPN, United, under Ruben Amorim have identified Delap as their preferred centre-forward option, pivoting away from more expensive targets such as Viktor Gyokeres, Benjamin Sesko and Victor Osimhen.

Financial prudence is believed to be a driving factor, with Delap’s potential fee of around £40 million presenting a more affordable solution.

Chelsea, also in search of attacking reinforcements, remain keen on securing Delap’s signature as they look to add a young and proven Premier League scorer to their ranks.
