Teacher murdered in his home a day after Eid celebration
Tragedy struck a town in Niger State on Saturday, June 7, 2025, as a beloved secondary school teacher, Mallam Mohammed Abubakar Tayi, was found brutally murdered in his home, just a day after celebrating Eid with his family.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Saturday at his residence along Abattoir Road in Mokwa. According to local accounts, unknown assailants broke into the home, killed the teacher, and fled with his motorcycle.
Mallam Mohammed, who had earlier been seen joyfully celebrating Eid with his family and neighbours, was described by residents as being “full of life” just hours before his death.
“He was full of life yesterday, celebrating with his family and greeting neighbours. We woke up today to hear he’s been killed,” a grieving local told reporters.
The deceased was a well-known figure in Mokwa’s education sector, having served for years at Government Day Secondary School in Kpege, now renamed Bokani Secondary School. Colleagues and students alike described him as a dedicated teacher who was passionate about shaping young lives.
