Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has released what he claims is email evidence showing his instrumental role in the selection of Peter Obi as Atiku Abubakar‘s running mate in the 2019 presidential election.

Omokri, who served under former President Goodluck Jonathan, disclosed in a statement shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday.

He presented an email purportedly sent to him by Peter Obi on October 8, 2018, four days before Obi was announced as Atiku’s running mate on October 12, 2018.

“Please find attached an email sent to me by Peter Obi at 6:13 PM on Monday, October 8, 2018. Four days after this email was sent, Peter Obi was announced as Waziri Atiku Abubakar’s running mate,” Omokri wrote.

He emphasized that the release of the email was to refute claims from Peter Obi’s supporters, particularly the Obidient Movement, that he had lied about his role in Obi’s 2019 vice-presidential nomination.

“My ONLY motive in publishing this evidence is to establish that I did not lie. I would not have considered publishing this email if a Peter Obi surrogate had not called me a liar on a popular podcast,” he stated.

Omokri also dared Peter Obi to publicly deny the authenticity of the email, threatening to release more “damning evidence” if provoked further.

“If this email is fake or AI-generated, then I challenge Mr. Obi to deny it, and I will publish even more damning evidence, although it is not my desire to do so,” he said.
