CHAN 2025: Chelle unveils Nigeria’s 35-man provisional squad
Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has announced a 35-man provisional squad for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Nigeria ramps up preparations for the tournament scheduled to hold next month across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
The squad features a balanced mix of home-based senior internationals and standout performers from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
Among the headline call-ups are Papa Mustapha Daniel, Anas Yusuf, the NPFL’s top scorer, and fullback Sodiq Ismaila.
Also included are Junior Nduka, Waliu Ojetoye, Ifeanyi Onyebuchi, and Saviour Isaac, all of whom recently featured in the Unity Cup tournament in London.
Promising goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt of Sporting Lagos, who impressed at the U20 AFCON, also gets the nod.
Nigeria qualified for the tournament with a 3-1 aggregate victory over Ghana and will be hoping to replicate, or surpass their runner-up finish in the 2018 edition.
The CHAN Eagles are drawn in Group D alongside defending champions Senegal, as well as Sudan and Congo.
Group D matches will be played at Amman Stadium in Zanzibar and the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
With the final squad set to be trimmed to 23, the competition for places will be intense as Chelle evaluates form and fitness in the coming weeks.
