Family members share what transpired in Buhari’s final moments
New details have surfaced about the final hours of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, as shared by his close relatives and confidant, Mamman Daura.
In conversations with THISDAY, they recounted what happened in his last moments.

Daura, who is both Buhari’s nephew and long-time associate, revealed that he was with the late President on Saturday, and that preparations were already underway for his discharge from the London clinic later in the week.
According to him, Buhari appeared to be in good spirits, showing no signs of a critical decline.
Other family members supported this account, saying there was no indication that Buhari’s condition would take a fatal turn.
They noted that the former leader seemed stable, and arrangements were even being made to settle hotel bills for those in London supporting him.
Daura mentioned that Buhari was cheerful during his Saturday visit and that he planned to return on Sunday.
However, things changed drastically the next day. While having breakfast, Buhari reportedly began experiencing difficulty breathing, and his condition rapidly worsened. Medical staff tried to stabilize him, but he passed away at around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.

“We were together on Saturday talking and laughing and Buhari was in high spirits in the London Clinic where he was admitted. We talked about everything. He even had the plan to depart for Nigeria upon his discharge this week and made sure that arrangements were made to sort out the hotel bills of everybody who was in London on his behalf before departing.
“I left him about 9pm on Saturday in high spirits and promised to see him on Sunday afternoon. He was looking forward to his doctor’s visit on Sunday morning.. But around midday, he started having breathing challenges and doctors rushed to his side to try and manage it. But unfortunately, around 4.30 pm, he gave up the ghost.”
