Donald Trump claims Club World Cup trophy for Oval Office, Chelsea handed replica
US President Donald Trump has revealed that the original FIFA Club World Cup trophy remains in the Oval Office following Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the final held at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey.
Trump, who attended the final on Sunday, gatecrashed Chelsea’s trophy presentation ceremony and later confirmed that FIFA President Gianni Infantino had offered him the original trophy permanently, stating a second version would be produced for Chelsea.
Speaking to DAZN, Trump explained:
“I said, ‘When are you going to pick up the trophy?’
“[They said] ‘We’re never going to pick it up. You can have it forever in the Oval Office. We’re making a new one.’
“And they actually made a new one [for Chelsea]. So that was quite exciting, but right now [the original] is in the Oval.”
It remains unclear whether the two trophies, FIFA’s original and Chelsea’s replica are completely identical.
Infantino had first showcased the redesigned Club World Cup trophy earlier this year during a visit to the Oval Office.
The trophy is approximately 17 inches tall and weighs nearly 5 kilograms.
Following the final, Trump also joked that he might sign an executive order to officially rename “soccer” to “football” in the U.S., ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup set to take place in the country.
