Xavi Simons open to Chelsea switch, Blues make enquiry
Chelsea have made an initial approach for Dutch forward Xavi Simons, with the RB Leipzig star reportedly open to a move to Stamford Bridge this summer.
The Blues, under new head coach Enzo Maresca, are continuing their squad rebuild and view Simons as a key attacking target.
However, any formal bid for the 21-year-old will depend on player sales, as Chelsea aim to balance their squad both financially and numerically.
The West London club have already added attacking options including Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, and Jamie Gittens, with Brazilian teenager Estevao Willian also set to arrive this summer.
With Chelsea targeting nine attackers for the upcoming season, further reinforcements hinge on offloading several current forwards.
Among those linked with potential exits are Christopher Nkunku, who endured a frustrating season and limited minutes under Maresca.
Another is Joao Felix, who has attracted interest from former club Benfica; and Nicolas Jackson, subject of reported interest from Manchester United.
Meanwhile, Mykhailo Mudryk remains provisionally suspended following an FA charge over an anti-doping breach, leaving his long-term future at the club uncertain.
Simons, who impressed in Germany last season, is being closely monitored as Chelsea evaluate whether to strengthen further ahead of their Premier League opener against Crystal Palace on August 17.
The Blues will face Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan in home pre-season friendlies on August 8 and 10.
