AFCON 2025: Super Eagles opponents Uganda boycott training over unpaid allowances
Uganda’s national team, the Cranes, have refused to train over unpaid allowances, just days before their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) opener against Tunisia in Morocco.
Reports indicate the squad staged a protest on Saturday in response to the non-payment of bonuses owed from the AFCON 2025 qualification campaign.
The players are also said to be demanding clarity on their financial entitlements for the tournament proper.
The standoff has prompted intervention from Uganda Football Association president David Magogo, who has reportedly stepped in to defuse the situation and prevent further disruption to preparations.

Distraction ahead of crucial group fixtures
The development comes at a sensitive time for the Cranes, who are scheduled to open their Group C campaign against Tunisia in Fès on Tuesday.
Uganda will also face three-time champions Nigeria and regional rivals Tanzania in what is shaping up to be a highly competitive group.
Any prolonged dispute risks undermining Uganda’s readiness, with the Super Eagles and Tunisia expected to capitalise on any instability within the camp.
Pressure mounts on federation
With the tournament imminent, pressure is now on the Ugandan FA to resolve the matter quickly and restore focus within the squad.
Failure to do so could leave the Cranes entering AFCON 2025 distracted and underprepared, a scenario their group opponents would be keen to exploit.
