Man laments N1.2M hospital bill after welcoming baby via C-section
A Nigerian man shares his frustration after receiving a shocking hospital bill of N1.2 million for the birth of his baby via cesarean section (CS).
In a detailed post, @IamEkene_ on X (formerly Twitter) recounted the unexpected financial strain, describing the experience as both joyous and exploitative.
Ekene explained that during antenatal visits, the hospital informed him the cost of a CS procedure would be ₦200,000, with no hidden fees unless complications arose.
He also budgeted ₦500,000 for additional expenses, such as private room charges, which were quoted at ₦20,000 per night. However, the reality turned out differently.
“E reach my time to be person papa, CS come cost me ₦1.2m. Lol. This life no get format,” he wrote, sharing a breakdown of the charges for consultations, tests, and post-surgery care.
How a private hospital charged me N1.2M for child delivery
“Do you know what is insane about that bill?
I went there prior to the date of delivery for antenatal and made enquiries about the fee for CS. The doctor on duty told me it was just 200k. I made sure I asked extensively if there were other financial demands, he said no unless there are complications.
“I asked how much a private room after the procedure with cost and I was adequately informed that it’s ₦20k per night. So basically, I kept like 500k asides incase of any eventualities because I knew my wife had a very rough journey with gestation.
“Before she went into the theatre, I was asked to deposit ₦100k ( as seen on the leaflet) as part payment, ₦2500 for doctor’s consultation that morning & ₦13,100 for RVS, VDRL and hepatitis tests.
“The surgery was successful as there were no complications with my wife. After the 4th day of being on bed rest and ascertained she could be discharged, I asked for the bill. When I saw the amount, I couldn’t even believe my eyes. Like most people in the CS, it was the thought of daylight extortion that ran through my mind. Omo!!
“Anyway, I cleared it and went home eventually but I knew I would never forgive and forget the process and humans that led me to the slaughterhouse to be exploited.
To God be the glory, everyone is fine. That’s my biggest consolation.”
