Former Chelsea star Florent Malouda joins army
Former Chelsea winger and Champions League winner Florent Malouda has taken up a role in the military reserve of French Guiana, his place of birth.
The 44-year-old, who enjoyed a successful six-year stint at Stamford Bridge, recently shared photos of himself in military gear while undergoing initiation at the Equatorial Forest Training Center of the 3rd Forest Infantry Regiment (3rd REI).
Malouda joined the regiment’s citizens’ reserve, a program that allows civilians to contribute to military activities and values without formal enlistment.
On Instagram, he expressed gratitude for the experience, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and resilience, qualities he also valued in his football career.

Malouda, who earned 80 caps for France, holds a strong connection to French Guiana, where he returned after retiring in 2018.
Despite his illustrious career—winning 12 major trophies, including the 2012 Champions League—his time at Chelsea ended on a sour note as he was sidelined for the 2012/13 season.
Malouda remains a supporter of Chelsea, recently sharing a picture in the club’s current away kit.
