Kate Henshaw was born on July 9, 1971, in Cross River State, Nigeria, as the oldest of four children. She began her early schooling at St. Mary’s private school in Ajele, Lagos, before enrolling in the Federal Government Girls College in Calabar for secondary school.

She continued her remedial studies for one year at the University of Calabar before transferring to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) and majoring in Medical Microbiology at the School of Medical Laboratory Science.

Henshaw worked in the Bauchi State General Hospital. Henshaw previously worked as a model, appearing in a number of commercials, including a print and television advertisement for Shield deodorant.

Career

Henshaw was cast as the lead in the 1993 film When the Sun Sets after auditioning. This marked her first appearance in a major Nollywood film. Henshaw has starred in over 45 Nollywood movies.

In 2008, she won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for the film Stronger Than Pain. She was nominated for “Best Actress in a Leading Role” at the African Movie Academy Awards in 2018 for her role in the film “Roti”.

Politics

Kate Henshaw ran as a Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the Calabar Municipal/Odukpani Federal constituency in 2014 but was defeated.

In December 2015, former Cross River State Governor Ben Ayade appointed her as Special Adviser Liaison in Lagos.

In 2012, Henshaw was appointed brand ambassador for Blessing fragrances, a UK perfume line. She is the brand ambassador for Promasidor Nigeria Limited’s “Onga” seasoning. In September 2012, Henshaw and Dan Foster were chosen as judges on the reality show Nigeria Got Talent.
