Borno Attack: Peter Obi urges Nigerians to rise above politics
Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has urged a united stance against criminal activities plaguing the country.
This follows a devastating attack by the Boko Haram terrorist group on Sunday in Kayakura village, an agricultural community in the Doron Baga ward.
The assault resulted in significant casualties and numerous missing persons.
According to Amnesty International, at least 147 residents of Kayakura lost their lives in the Sunday evening attack.

In a statement on Friday, Obi described the incident as a tragic reminder of the urgent need for the government to strengthen its efforts to secure the nation and protect its citizens.
“The recent terrorist attack and ambush in Borno State, which claimed precious lives and left many missing, is a grim reminder of the persistent security challenges facing our nation.
“This tragedy highlights the urgent need for the government to intensify efforts to secure the country. The fight against terrorism must be resolute, and we urge those in authority to deploy all available resources to bring the perpetrators of this heinous act to justice.
“Our security personnel on the frontlines must be adequately equipped, supported, and motivated to tackle these threats effectively,” he said.
The former governor of Anambra State consoled the families of the victims. He called for collective efforts to address the country’s rising insecurity challenge.
“As a nation, we must rise above politics to confront this menace. Insecurity is not just a government challenge; it requires a united front from all stakeholders – community leaders, religious leaders, civil society, and every citizen.
‘To the grieving families, no words can fully convey the depth of our sorrow for your loss. Your pain is shared by all Nigerians, and our thoughts and prayers are with you in this moment of profound grief,” he stated.
