“No bias in Tinubu’s appointments: 71 northerners, 63 southerners so far” – Presidency
The Presidency has responded to ongoing criticism regarding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s federal appointments, asserting that there is no tribal bias in his selection.
According to the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, a total of 71 appointments have been made from the North and 63 from the South since Tinubu assumed office.
Dare disclosed this via his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, emphasizing that the President’s selection process has been guided by fairness, competence, and national unity rather than by tribalism or religion.
”People tend to isolate new appointments so far made by the President and examine them with a tribal lens,” Dare stated. “But it is too early to conclude that appointments are lopsided. Tinubu has barely completed two years in office and there are still plenty more appointments coming.”
Providing a regional breakdown of the appointments from the South, Dare stated that the South-West tops the list with 26 appointees, followed by the South-South with 21 and the South-East with 16.
Dare also pointed out to President Tinubu’s leadership style during his tenure as the Governor of Lagos State, where his cabinet included individuals from various parts of the country, irrespective of their tribal or regional backgrounds.
“As President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains the same man who is not blinded by the cloak of tribe or religion,” Dare added.
