Anthony Elanga completes £55m Newcastle move as Forest owe Man United £5m
Newcastle United have confirmed the £55 million signing of Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest, with the Swedish international joining on a long-term deal believed to run for five years.
The move also triggers a £5 million windfall for Manchester United, courtesy of a sell-on clause from his previous transfer to Forest.
The 23-year-old winger, who registered six goals and 11 assists last season to help Forest secure Europa Conference League qualification, expressed happiness about linking up with manager Eddie Howe and national teammate Alexander Isak.
“I’m ready to put on this black and white top, fight for this team, and give everything for the passionate fanbase that lives and breathes football,” Elanga said.
“The club won a trophy last season and is building something special. I want to be part of it.”
Elanga began his career at Manchester United but truly found his form at Forest, where he developed into one of the Premier League’s most consistent wide threats.
The winger credited Forest for shaping his current form but said he’s ready for the next chapter.
“I had an amazing two years at Nottingham Forest… but I’m really happy to be here now.”
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe praised the acquisition, calling Elanga a “key target” and emphasized the importance of securing him early in pre-season.
“I’m delighted to welcome Anthony to Newcastle United. He has been a key target for us, so I’m delighted to secure him at this early part of pre-season.”
Elanga becomes Newcastle’s first major signing of the summer as they prepare for a renewed European push and domestic competition.
