Tinubu mocks ADC, describes party as ‘coalition of confusion’
President Bola Tinubu has criticised the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the opposition party as a “coalition of confusion”, during the 14th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held in Abuja.
Tinubu, addressing party stakeholders, said it was “not a bad idea to abandon a sinking ship,” in what many observers interpreted as a swipe at recent defections from the ADC and other parties to the ruling APC.
The president also used the opportunity to express gratitude to Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, the immediate-past National Chairman of the APC, for his service to the party. He particularly commended Ganduje’s efforts in laying the groundwork for a progressive institute aimed at deepening the party’s ideological foundations.
“I gave him an assignment on the formation of a progressive institute. The National Secretary will work with the chairman to revitalise it, and we can still take him (Ganduje) as a consultant to work with the new chairman,” Tinubu stated.
The president further announced a shift in the dates of the APC’s Ward, Local Government, and State Congresses, now postponed until December. He explained that the move was to allow more time to accommodate incoming members, as the party anticipates fresh defections and increased grassroots participation.
The NEC meeting follows the appointment of Prof. Nentawe Yiltwada, Nigeria’s Humanitarian Affairs Minister, as the new National Chairman of the APC, succeeding Ganduje, who resigned in June.
President Tinubu reiterated the APC’s commitment to internal reforms and inclusiveness, stressing that the party remained open to all Nigerians who believed in its vision of progress and national development.
