‘He makes Arsenal much better’ – Arteta hails Gyokeres’
Mikel Arteta says Viktor Gyokeres has made Arsenal a stronger and more complete side after the striker ended his goal drought with a brace in the Gunners’ 4-0 demolition of Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
The £64m forward had gone seven games without scoring after netting three times in his first four matches, but he rediscovered his touch on Tuesday night.
His two goals took his tally to five in 12 appearances, and Arteta was quick to credit his persistence and influence on the team.
“He fully deserved it,” Arteta said. “Even when he wasn’t scoring, his work off the ball, his hold-up play, and the spaces he creates made us a much better team. He’s so physical, unpredictable, and relentless. And now he’s getting the goals his effort deserves.”

The manager also highlighted how the team pushed Gyokeres forward to celebrate with the fans after his brace, a sign of unity and appreciation. “They know how much he gives to the side,” Arteta added.
Striker relieved to be back among the goals
Gyokeres admitted he was delighted to find the net again after his barren run. “I’m very pleased, of course,” the 27-year-old said.
“I always try to help the team and work hard. The goals were going to come sooner or later. We’ll keep going game by game.”
Arsenal maintain perfect European run
The win continued Arsenal’s perfect start to their Champions League campaign, with three victories and no goals conceded in the group stage.
Domestically, they sit top of the Premier League with 10 wins in 12 matches across all competitions, and the fewest goals conceded in the club’s history at this stage of a season.
Arteta’s men next travel to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace as they look to build on their impressive form.
