FG secures freedom of 100 kidnapped schoolchildren in Niger state
The Federal Government has successfully secured the release of 100 schoolchildren abducted from St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State.
The attack, carried out by armed bandits on November 21, 2025, targeted the school dormitories around 2 a.m., leaving parents and the community in shock.
Coordinated rescue efforts lead to freedom of victims
Reports indicate that the attackers, who arrived on motorbikes, abducted 315 individuals in total, including 303 students and 12 teachers.
Within the first 24 hours, 50 pupils managed to escape and were safely reunited with their families, while 265 victims remained in captivity until the latest breakthrough.
Government and security agencies remain on high alert
Following the abduction, security operatives, in collaboration with local hunters, launched an extensive search operation across surrounding forests.
Their persistent and coordinated efforts ultimately led to the rescue of 100 children, a development hailed by parents, school authorities, and community leaders.
Authorities emphasised that heightened security measures are being maintained across vulnerable areas to prevent further attacks on schools.
Investigations into the perpetrators are ongoing, with a focus on apprehending the bandits and dismantling their networks.
