United Arab Emirates introduces strict visa rules for Nigerians
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has introduced stricter visa rules for Nigerian travelers, effective July 8, 2025.
This development comes on the heels of a recent US visa policy change for Nigerians, which has raised concerns about travel and diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The UAE has suspended the issuance of transit visas to Nigerians, effectively barring them from using Dubai as a stopover destination.
Under the new policy, Nigerians aged 18-45 traveling alone are no longer eligible for tourist visas.
Individuals above 45 years applying for a tourist visa must now present a personal bank statement for the past six months, showing a minimum monthly balance of $10,000 or its naira equivalent.
Additionally, all travelers to the UAE are required to show proof of hotel reservations and sufficient funds (5,000 dirhams) to cover their stay.
These changes are likely to reduce Nigerian traffic to Dubai, a popular destination for business and tourism.
Notably, this move comes barely a year after the UAE lifted a two-year visa ban on Nigerian citizens.
