Bauchi Governor slams Tinubu’s tax reform, calls it Anti-North
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has criticized the tax reform policies introduced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration, describing them as detrimental to the North and a threat to Nigeria’s unity.
According to reports, Mohammed made these comments on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by the Christian community in Bauchi State to the Government House as part of their annual Christmas homage.
The Governor expressed concerns that the reforms appear to favor certain regions of the country while disadvantaging the North.

He called on the Federal Government to reassess its policies to ensure they address the interests of all Nigerians. Mohammed also cautioned that disregarding the concerns of the populace could lead to unrest, stressing that effective leadership demands attentiveness and sensitivity to the needs of the people.
He said, “We are facing serious wahala in this country. Hunger is everywhere, and the masses are suffering. This tax reform is not only anti-North but also a threat to the unity of our country.
“The government must listen to the people. This is a democracy, not a dictatorship or an oligarchy. Policies should never be imposed on the people without considering their welfare.
“If you ignore the cries of the people, you are inviting anarchy. These reforms are not helping northern Nigeria. How do you expect us to pay salaries and build roads when you are taking away our revenue sources? This is unacceptable.
“No leader should feel too proud or arrogant to admit when a policy is not working. If something is not popular with the people, change it. This is not about religion or tribe; it is about fairness, justice, and the unity of Nigeria.”
Addressing the Christian community, Governor Mohammed expressed gratitude for their support.
He added, “I have always enjoyed the backing of my Christian brothers and sisters, even from my days in the ANPP. You believed in me despite my limitations, and I appreciate that. Whatever I do for you, it is because you deserve it.”
