NNPC cuts petrol prices nationwide ahead of christmas travels
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has unveiled revised petrol prices across the country, offering a major reprieve to motorists ahead of the Christmas season.
Abuja now records the lowest pump price among major cities at N835 per litre, slightly higher than Lagos at N820 per litre, according to information from NNPC retail outlets.
The adjustment follows Dangote Refinery’s decision to cut ex-depot prices to N699 per litre, with partner stations implementing a N739 retail price.
NNPC has mirrored the reduction to remain competitive and ensure wider availability of affordable fuel.
Regional price variations
While Abuja and Lagos enjoy lower rates, northern states such as Gombe, Niger, and Zamfara are now among the most expensive, selling petrol at N965, N955, and N945 per litre respectively.
In the South-South and South-East regions, prices generally hover around N900 per litre, with minor variations across states such as Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Ebonyi.
“This new pricing comes at the perfect time as Nigerians prepare for holiday travel,” said market analyst Ifeanyi Okeke. “Lower pump prices in Abuja and Lagos could encourage transporters to adjust fares, easing financial pressure on commuters.”
Relief for motorists and businesses
The updated pricing is expected to benefit millions of Nigerians and businesses dependent on fuel for daily operations.
Several downstream operators, including MRS and Sixxco Oil Ltd, have begun sourcing petroleum products directly from Dangote Refinery, further supporting price stability nationwide.
As festive travel ramps up, the price adjustments provide timely relief and may influence transport costs across the country.
